12 Days of Christmas

My husband and I have been talking about different traditions we want to start with our family and since our daughter is 3 and my son is 5 months anything is fun for them :) I've always wanted to do a 12 days of Christmas for a family and this is the year we're going to do it!!

The first day starts tomorrow (Saturday December 12th) and the twelvth day will end on Christmas Eve. I'm going to try my hardest (try being the key word) to post one day ahead so if you want to join in you'll have time to get everything together. Every Friday I will post for the entire weekend to ensure I don't get behind. This is a fun activity to do for a family, for a co-worker, or anyone that needs an extra smile this holiday season. I got all of the sayings on a family crafts website several years ago.

We picked a family in our church that has several kids that I have grown to love over the past year. I don't want to say too much because they may visit the blog and I woulnd't want to blow my cover before it even starts but I know they will love it and it will be a challenge to keep ourselves secret.

If you're going to join in (pretty pretty please) leave me a comment and tell me who you're going to do it for. Let's spread some holiday cheer together!

so here is goes....

Saturday December 12th: On the First day of Christmas, your true love gave to you- a partridge in a pear tree... Sorry but I couldn't find the partridge so I'm giving you some pears from the tree that the partridge flew away from! (leave a note along with a can of pears or a few fresh pears)

Sunday December 13th: On the Second day of Christmas, your true love gave to you- two turtle doves... Unfortunatly I don't have any, will candy turtles on a bar of Dove soap do? (leave a note along with a few turtle candy and a bar of dove soap)

Monday December 14th: On the Third day of Christmas, your true love gave to you- Three French Hens... The Three French Hens were not available, so I'm giving you some chicken noodle soup, compliments of the Three French Hens. (leave a note along with a can -or 3 cans- of chicken noodle soup).... PS... I'm going to make homeade chicken noodle soup and leave it on the doorstep for dinner! Here is a recipe.

Tuesday December 15th: On the Fourth day of Christmas, your true love gave to you- four calling birds... I can't find those calling birds, but here are four messages they left for you before they flew off. (Leave note along with four messages describing what a wonderful person the gift recipient is)

Wednesday December 16th: On the Fifth day of Christmas, your true love gave to you- five golden rings.. Sorry, I'm too poor to buy five golden rings, but will some golden pineapple rings suffice? (Leave note along with a can of pineapple rings)

Thursday December 17th: On the Sixth day of Christmas, your true love gave to you- Six geese a laying... You don't really want messy geese all over the house do you? How about some of the eggs they left behind? (Leave a note along with 6 eggs)

Friday December 18th: On the Seventh day of Christmas, your true love gave to you- seven swans a swimming... All the swans have flown south for the winter, but here are some of the bubbles they used while they were swimming (Leave note along with a bottle of bubble bath, or a bottle of bubbles)

** Update: I am SOOO sorry that I have gotten behind :( Its just that time of year! So that it doesn't happen again I'm going to post through the rest of the week, please forgive me!**

Saturday December 19th: On the Eighth day of Christmas, your true love gave to you-Eight maids a milking... Here's some milk from the eight maids - we think they must have been milking some brown cows! (Leave a note along with a carton of chocolate milk)

Monday December 21st: On the Tenth day of Christmas, your true love gave to you-Ten lords-a-leapin'... After the lords get done leapin' this is what they use for their sore muscles (leave a note along with a bottle of Bengay or other soothing lotion)

Tuesday December 22nd: On the Eleventh day of Christmas, your true love gave to you- eleven pipers piping... Here's a pipe of your own, have fun and don't blow the whole day!! (Leave a note along with a bottle of bubbles and bubble pipe)

Wednesday December 23rd: On the Twelvth day of Christmas, your true love gave to you-twelve drummers drumming... No drummers, we thought you could use some quiet time so here is a special treat we drummed up for you so relax and enjoy!! (Leave a note along with a treat)

I have done the 12 Days of Christmas for seven different families or people. I had a great deal of fun putting them together. I mailed several of them and just wrote on each wrapped gift what day to open the gift up. I do hope they will be enjoyed by all who are receiving them

My only suggestion for next year is to do the 12 days of Christmas after Christmas instead of before. Historically the 12 Days of Christmas are the 12 days after Christmas symbolizing the time it took the Three Wise Men to get to Baby Jesus in the manger in Bethelehem. Other than that, I love the 12 days of Christmas idea! I'm going to start now for next year!!
